Top Personal Growth Bloggers Wisdom

I have a real treat for you today.  I’m going to expose you to wisdom from 5 top personal growth bloggers I follow.  Although I have blogs, I don’t really consider myself as a blogger.  I’m primarily a speaker who has a blog.  I’m certainly not in the same calibre of blogging as the individuals I’m going to tell you about here.

Here’s some samples of their wisdom.

Jay White – Dumb Little Man

No, I’m not calling Jay a Dumb Little Man because this is the actual name of the blog he started, which is anything but dumb.  Jay offers a lot of practical, no-nonsense tips especially in the area of money as you will see here as he says,

“Whatever you are saving, it’s not enough … I hate to say this but you are the only person watching out for you …  you have to plan your finances in a way that will all but guarantee your needs are met … You can NOT rely on anything that you don’t personally control.”

To Jay, this means controlling your spending and put more emphasis on saving for your future.  Many people already know this but not enough take action to actually do it effectively.  He goes on to say,

“There are loads of ‘gurus’ out there and there are thousands of tips.  However, at some point it becomes paralysis by analysis so you do nothing.  When it comes to money, have a handful of guiding principles and live by them.”

If you procrastinate and don’t take action in your finances or your overall personal growth, he has this warning;

“I want to be loud and clear here.  If you are 20 years old today, you WILL wake up tomorrow and be 35.”

Of course, this is the same as if we are 40 today, we will wake up tomorrow and be 65 (and possibly broke).  See his full post on financial mistakes as well as the entire Dumb Little Man blog

Celestine Chua – The Personal Excellence Blog

personal growth bloggers celestine chuaCelestine hails from Singapore and has a global following at both her blog called The Personal Excellence Blog as well as her associated forum.  Her writing style and advice are very down to earth which is why her followers are so attracted to her.  Here are some of her thoughts on dealing with life problems.

“Bad things happen every day in our life, to everyone, be it the rich or the famous.  They’re no different or less susceptible to such daily incidences as everyone.  While we can’t change what has already taken place, we can change how we react to them and what we do about them.  If we learn how to cope with them properly, we can accomplish so much more.”

Celes adds another way to look at the problems that crop up.

“Most problems we encounter daily may seem like huge issues when they crop up, but most, if not all, don’t have much impact in our life beyond that day.  Hence, there’s no reason to get so stressed up over them … In every setback, there are going to be things that can’t be reversed since they have already occurred.  You want to focus on things that can still be changed (salvageable) vs. things that have already happened and can’t be changed.  The only time the situation changes is when you take steps to improve it.”

This is an excellent example of emotional intelligence where you react to problems in a constructive way rather than letting negativity bring you down.  See Celes’ full post on dealing with problems as well as The Personal Excellence Blog.

Steve Pavlina – Personal Development Blog

Steve Pavlina out of Las Vegas has one of the biggest followings for not only his own Personal Development Blog but also his Personal Development For Smart People Forum.

Here’s some of his wisdom on the importance of completing projects to achieve goals.

“Crossing the starting line is much easier than crossing the finish line … Your overall results in life largely depend on your ability to follow through until you achieve completion.  Many projects produce essentially zero results if they’re 90% complete.  The key results only appear when you reach 100% completion.”

Steve claims that it is crucial to realize that the important projects and goals in life are seldom easy.  Realize that from the start and put in the effort to do these ones since they will be the goals that will change your life as he continues on saying.

“Worthwhile projects don’t normally complete themselves.  A good project will frequently require a serious investment of time and energy.  Even if the work is enjoyable, you may still need to put in many hours to see it through to the end.”

Steve’s blog posts are usually in great detail as he puts a lot of meat into his work and therefore value for his readers.  See his full post on completing projects as well as his Personal Development Blog.

Leo Babauta – Zen Habits

Leo Babauta based in San Francisco and originally from Guam, has also built up a large loyal following with his Zen Habits blog.  Much of Leo’s personal growth advice has a spiritual Zen-like feel (thus the name of his blog) and unlike so many bloggers out there, he strives more for a balance in life.  This is in contrast to many of the bloggers who just want to focus on money or wealth.

For example, here is some of Leo’s wisdom regarding the trap that many people fall into which is comparing themselves to others, usually those who are richer and more successful.

“If you look to the lives of others, you’ll always find yourself lacking.  Look instead at what you have, and be grateful.  Reduce your needs, and be content.  And your life of striving for perfection, for the future, will become a life of balance, of the moment, of inner peace.”

I love these words as it implies that it is certainly not necessary to try and keep up with the Jones’ so to speak.  See his full post on this common trap as well as his entire Zen Habits blog.

Brian Tracy

The final of the 5 top personal growth bloggers I want to highlight here is Brian Tracy.  Brian of course is a well known guru on business and personal development.  As expected, his Brian Tracy blog has excellent advice in these areas.  Here are some of this thoughts on self esteem.

“The more you like yourself, the more confidence you have.  The more you like yourself, the more efficient and effective you are in each area of your life … Self-esteem is the key to peak performance.  Self-esteem, the feeling of liking and respecting yourself, is the foundation principle of success and happiness. It is vital for you to feel fully alive.”

Brian relates self esteem to your personal values as he says,

“Living your life consistent with your deepest values is essential for you to enjoy high self-esteem.  People who are clear about what they believe in and value, and who refuse to compromise their values like and respect themselves far more than people who are unclear about what is really important to them … The very act of living your life consistent with your values, and using your time effectively and well, improves your self-image, builds your self-esteem and self-confidence, and increases your self-respect.”

I always appreciate the way Brian pulls together elements of personal growth and business success.  See his full post on self esteem as well as his official Brian Tracy website for more resources.
