Work Motivation

I was watching a TV show called Kitchen Nightmares when British chef Gordon Ramsey goes into failing restaurants to try and save them from going out of business.  It’s interesting how there are common themes from show to show which features different restaurants going downhill all the time.  Not only is each restaurant currently serving lousy food with poor service, the owners are usually so dysfunctional that their behaviour demotivates their staff.  There is no work motivation at any of the restaurants as staff are visibly down when interviewed.

The thing that business owners must realize is whether it’s a small business operation with just a few staff or a complete department from a huge corporation, the managers or supervisors are responsible for work motivation of their teams.  It’s not enough to simply give out orders as the boss anymore.  In fact, it never was.

Staff Needs Work Motivation To Perform At Their Best

The fact is that office staff or any other type of team from a business need work motivation from the higher levels in order to perform at their best.  A paycheck is not enough.  Although salary might be enough to keep them there on the job, it’s not a guarantee that they will do well in their jobs.

It is up to the leaders of each business to provide that much needed work motivation.  If you are in such a capacity as a business owner, supervisor or manager with staff reporting to you, what did you do this month as part of work motivation to keep your people’s spirit high?

You have to be honest here.  If you really did not do much in this aspect, you just might want to consider what you can do in order to perk your team up so that they will perform at their best.
