Motivational Inspirational Speaker On Fears

I was at a social event with my ski group last night at a pub in Toronto where I met up with both familiar faces I’ve skied with last winter as well as new people who joined our group for the first time.  Some of these new folks were beginner level skiers and we had some interesting conversations about fears.  As a motivational inspirational speaker as well as the official certified ski instructor for the group, I had some hopefully helpful words for these people.

Many of these beginner skiers fear that they will fall and hurt themselves.  They also fear that if they get caught on a ski slope that is too steep for them, they won’t be able to stop and will eventually knock some other skier over or end up in the ski resort parking lot!

I’ve had to help some beginner level skiers who accidentally got caught on a slope that was beyond their skill level and they were practically paralyzed up at the top while looking down.  You can easily spot these skiers since they are not moving at all but just looking down wondering how the heck they are going to down the hill without killing themselves.

Such fears, like many other fears are totally justifiable.  I’ve been in their ski boots too so I know what it’s like to be caught on a ski slope that is beyond my skill level.  It’s not a great feeling at all.

Getting Over Fears

But what I would recommend the most to not only these beginner level skiers, but also to other people who have certain fears of their own, is to enlist the help of other people to help them gradually get over their fears.  Rather than trying to tackle such fear on their own, it is often much more effective and faster to have qualified people help you.

In the case of beginner skiers, the best people to help them of course are certified ski instructors who understand their fears and can professionally coach them down a steeper slope.  This will gradually help build confidence in beginners when supervised and motivated by instructors.

I believe that this type of arrangement can work for many other types of fears as well.  As a motivational inspirational speaker, I can relate to the skills that instructors need in order to help students of any type with fears.

So next time you have a certain fear, you just might want to get a qualified instructor involved with such a fear to help you get over it rather than trying to tackle the fear on your own.  Instructors, whether on the ski slopes or some other area, are there to help you.
