Joe Satriani Inspired Rock Guitar Instrumental

Joe Satriani is a legend among rock guitar fans and like many guitar virtuosos, his music is not mainstream.  However, he is considered a guitar God among fans and other rock guitarists around the world.

One thing that I personally like about Joe Satriani’s music is that his guitar instrumentals have a melodic structure to them.  This is unlike many other guitarists, even other guitar virtuosos who play instrumentals like they were extended guitar solos.  Joe Satriani instrumentals actually sound like real songs rather than just guitar solos.

His work did inspire me a bit on how I play the instrumental version of my original tune called Free Fall To Love.  I tried to put in some melodic structure in addition to guitar solos throughout the song.

Although this song was recorded quite some time ago, it was only last year when I finally came around to shooting a video for it.  And some locations around Jack Darling Park in Mississauga as well as in Robert Edmondson Conservation Area in Halton for the opening scenes worked great for this video.

I even recruited my friend Shannon to play the mystery woman in the video as she fit the role perfectly.

Asian Rock Guitarist

This might very well be the first time for many people to actually see and hear an Asian rock guitarist, being yours truly.  But that’s okay by me.

This song is not going to be a hit song on the charts because of its musical genre.  But again, that’s okay with me since it was basically a way for me to really explore what an electric guitar can do.  It was an exercise in self expression.

If people happen to like and appreciate it, that’s great.  If not, then I totally understand since rock guitar instrumentals are not mainstream music.

Here is the video.

If you thought that Free Fall To Love was a bit too much for you and not your cup of musical tea, that’s fine.  Here is something a bit more mainstream for your enjoyment today — my unplugged acoustic guitar cover version of Neil Young’s ‘Hey Hey My My’.

Why do I do these musical projects?  Because playing music and especially guitar is one of my passions.  And doing one’s passions keeps one happy.
