Fitness Personal Development Goals

One of my ongoing personal development goals is to keep healthy as possible and that includes my cardiovascular fitness.  Each summer, our outdoor swimming pool opens up for the season and although it’s a relatively short one that goes from late June to early September, it’s a chance for me to utilize one of the best cardiovascular exercises available.

Not only is swimming great to cool off during hot days, but it’s a total body exercise that tones the muscles in addition to improving cardiovascular fitness.  One of the things I really live about swim workouts is that unlike all other cardio exercises, I don’t sweat in the pool.

Two Versions Of Swim Workouts

Since I haven’t been in the pool since last September, it’s been about ine months since my last swim.  So for the first few swim workouts of the new season, I start with a lighter session which involves 50 pool lengths.  Here is what they look like;

First 20 Pool Lengths = Front Crawl
Next 10 Pool Lengths = Butterfly Stroke (my sloppy version)
Last 20 Pool Lengths = Front Crawl

I’ll do this swim workout for the first week which is about three sessions.  As of today, I just finished my second workout and things feel pretty good but I want to get in one more of these light version swim workouts before moving onto the higher level one that will take me through the rest of the swim season.

This is the best way to do a new workout for the season.  Instead of diving (pardon the pun) into new workouts full blast, one should gradually get into them until your body adjusts.  So at this rate, I should be able to start the higher level swim workout next week.

Indeed, all types of personal development goals should be tackled this way with gradual advances.  This is all part of my belief that we should expand our comfort zones by 10% per week which is an integral component of my keynotes on achieving personal development goals – if you need a speaker at your event, check out my available speaking programs.

I’ll report back with this second version swim workout after my first session with it early in the week.
