Fall Season Fitness Program

This past weekend was the final days of our outdoor swimming pool season so effectively my summer swim season has ended.  I had a good swim season with consistent swim workouts three times per week along with other days for martial arts and weights.

It’s like this each year but I can utilize the outdoor pool for another month if they kept it open.  I would just wear a wet suit if it gets cooler.  But costs to keep the outdoor pool open are apparently high so the condo board shuts it down after each Labour Day weekend every year.

I knew it was a short season so I made sure I was consistent with the swim workouts even in light rain.  But now it’s time to switch over to my fall fitness season which will be more martial arts intensive.

Fall Fitness Workout Schedule

With three more days open that were previously swim days, I now have more workouts available to do martial arts.  This is perfect since I want to shoot some martial arts videos later this fall and these extra martial arts days will help me prepare so that I will be able to perform my martial arts forms and weapons at a decent level on video.

I will also start to increase the weight training for my legs in preparation for the upcoming winter ski season.  This involves doing extra sets with the weights for my legs, particularly lunges which I didn’t do during the summer weight training workouts.

Here’s what my fall fitness schedule will look like;

Mondays: Martial Arts Forms/Stretch
Tuesdays: Martial Arts Weapons/Stretch
Wednesdays: Weights/SuperStretch
Thursdays: Martial Arts Forms/Stretch
Fridays: Martial Arts Weapons/Stretch
Saturdays: Open/Stretch
Sundays: Weights/SuperStretch

My Saturdays will be kept ‘open’ as I’ll do whatever fitness activity I feel like doing that day.  It c0uld be a rollerblading outing or a hike on a trail with friends or my dogs or whatever comes up.

I’ll also continue to do a hike on a trail with friends as part of a social fitness event I run midweek each week.  I don’t include this as part of my fitness program since the hikes are not much of a workout for me.  They will be on either Wednesdays or Thursdays and I won’t skip the planned scheduled workout for that day.  So in reality, I’ll end up doing two separate workouts for those days I run a social fitness event.
