Taking Action To Do Whatever It Takes

I have to admit that this has not been a very productive week for me.  I’m playing pet nurse to both of my Lhasa Apso dogs Chester and Roxie as well as trying to get over illness myself.  But I am taking action to do whatever it takes to get all three of use healthy again.  This is yet another example of using the ‘do whatever it takes’ attitude that I talked about in my latest Motivational WebTV episode.

Roxie is on the mends from a urinary tract infection as she was finishing up her course of antibiotics earlier this week.  Chester just had eye surgery on Tuesday and is on an oral painkiller as well as three different topical eye medications that I have to administer two to four times per day.

I have to admit that both Chester and I are becoming experts at using eye medications and this is really credited towards his excellent cooperation that I trained him on early since puppyhood.  If you have a puppy or thinking about getting one, check out my free dog training video as both of my dogs demonstrate the basics of great dog obedience.

Chester will be on his current medications schedule for at least two weeks before we return to the vet clinic for a follow up visit with the eye specialist there.  In the meantime, I have to sort of look out for him so that he doesn’t bang his head into too much furniture or walls as he’s currently wearing a cone to prevent himself from scratching his eye.

I’m also feeling under the weather as well.  I caught that awful 24 hour stomach bug when I was down in South Carolina last week as a college speaker there.  That cleared up okay but I think my weakened immune system at that point must have made me vulnerable to getting a common cold and cough afterwards.

The ‘do whatever it takes’ attitude has kicked in as I’m going what I can to get over this temporary illness.  I’m getting lots of rest by sleeping early and taking further naps mid morning and mid afternoons.  This is actually quite easy as I’ve been feeling a bit weak anyways.

I’m also forcing myself to drink much more fluids than I’m normally accustomed to as well as gargling with salt water.  As for meds, all I’m taking is some decongestants since over the counter cough medications have proven to be useless.  I am sucking on some leftover sore throat lozenges I had from last year since at times, my throat is quite painful.  I’m also taking an extra 500 mg of vitamin C per day. Don’t know if any of this helps but it certainly can’t hurt.

This is a time period when I’m actually glad that I’m living alone with just my dogs right now as I wouldn’t want to burden anybody else.  I’ve been getting up a few times overnight and the coughing would definitely be hard on another person here.

All of this has unfortunately made my mind very unproductive this week.  It’s a good thing that I’m in between speaking engagements right now as the next one isn’t for another two weeks.  That one will be as a motivational diversity speaker that an organization in downtown Toronto has hired me for.

I was hoping to do more in terms of writing articles and shooting new videos this week but in my current state, I’m just not able to put much effort into anything else right now except to get better.  I’ve even had to cancel a few social engagements this week as well as miss a ski tech training workshop (which I hate to miss).

But I am taking aggressive action to get over this cold as fast as I can.  I’m pretty sure that I’ll be back to 100% next week.
