Summer Personal Improvement
Last week, I reported on the start of my outdoor pool swim workout season. I outlined the easier of two versions of my swim workout as this is the one to help me gradually ease into the more advanced version which I’m starting today. So basically, I did the easy version consisting of 50 pool lengths three separate times during my first week in the pool.
I’m moving onto the more advanced workout which will be 70 pool lengths starting this week. I’ll be swimming all summer long with this particular swim workout as part of my personal improvement for fitness.
This advanced swim workout has 20 more pool lengths added on plus some time with threading water (which I’ll explain later). Here’s what this workout looks like;
First 20 Pool Lengths = Front Crawl
Next 10 Pool Lengths = Butterfly Stroke (my sloppy version)
Next 10 Pool Lengths = Front Crawl
Next 10 Pool Lengths = Butterfly Stroke
Last 20 Pool Lengths – Front Crawl
During the last 10 pool lengths with front crawl, I’ll do three sets of threading water of 30 seconds each. For variety, I use three slightly different techniques for threading water, one for each set.
The first set I use a leg kick where the legs mimic two eggbeaters but in unison. The second set of 30 seconds uses a scissors kick. The third set is also an eggbeater kick but the legs are not in unison.
I am scheduled to be in the pool for this 30 minute swim workout three times per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). This is the swim workout that will take me through to the final week of the pool season at the beginning of September.
Other Personal Improvement Fitness Activities
In addition to my swimming, I will also do martial arts, weights, stretching as solo workouts and get in some hiking, rollerblading and other social activities for fitness this summer.
I may do a one day scuba diving trip to Brockville later in the summer as well.
If you already have your summer fitness activities as part of your personal improvement lined up, feel free to share below as it will give everyone some ideas.
