Strong Motivation Techniques

When it comes to really strong and effective motivation techniques, I consider getting role models to be one of the best.  We already know how effective role models are with children.  When they are exposed to certain professional athletes and Olympic athletes for example, they want to be just like them.

Motivation Techniques Effective For Children

We’ve even seen this work well in Canadian Inuit and aboriginal communities where they are in desperate need of positive role models.  Interestingly enough, the success of both Cree and Inuit hockey players from their own communities who made it into the National Hockey League (the premiere professional ice hockey league in North America) resulted in big enrollments of aboriginal and Inuit kids into hockey programs.

This is of course a great thing as being involved in sports keeps these kids away from drugs and crime.  Here is the use of positive role models working very nicely and this is why we have to be careful to make sure that we introduce the right role models for children.

As you are aware, exposing kids and teens to the wrong role models unfortunately is also one of the strongest motivation techniques in getting them to be on the wrong side of the law.  So the effect of role models can work either way which is why we must always present more positive ones to our youth.

Effective Motivation Techniques For Adults Too

Role models as motivation techniques are not only for children.  They can be very effective for adults as well and we all know that adults in general can still benefit greatly with more motivation in their lives.

If professional athletes no longer serve as role models for most adults, that’s okay because there are many more others who can still be effective for the older age groups.  For example, Princess Diana and Mother Theresa inspired millions of adults for their humanitarian work.  Nelson Mandela continues to be a huge role model for not only a fighter for human rights but also as a leader.

In the business world, Bill Gates, Steven Jobs and Donald Trump have proven to be strong role models for many aspiring business people.  Certain people in the entertainment industries are also role models for adults.

The trick for us adults here is to actively have such role models to look up to in our own lives.  They don’t have to be famous people as they could easily be somebody in your own community or family.  As long as it is somebody that you admire, respect and want to be like in terms of certain qualities, that person would be a great role model for you.

You just have to keep that person’s qualities in mind so that when you need motivation, you are reminded who you should strive to be like.  This is very important.  Most of us agree that certain people are role models but do not actively use their influence to motivate ourselves enough.

My Own Biggest Role Model

My own biggest role model in my life was and still continues to be the late, great Bruce Lee.  I still watch his movies a few times per year just to be reminded of why he influenced me so much in the first place.  This helps motivate me in pretty well everything I do today.  So having him as a role model is still one of the strongest motivation techniques for me.

I shot a past episode of Motivational WebTV as a video tribute to Bruce Lee complete with my little demo of nunchuks.  If you missed this video, see it at my Bruce Lee Video Tribute.  It’s one of the more popular episodes from my Motivational WebTV series.
