‘I Have A Dream’ By Martin Luther King
As I’m currently going over a business training program, the trainer mentioned that he regularly listens to the ‘I Have A Dream’ speech by Martin Luther King. Of course, this is perhaps one of the most powerful and famous speeches of all time. Fortunately, this speech was captured on motivational video.
I think many of us have seen either the entire speech on video or at least part of it somewhere. This speech was delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 28, 1963 by Martin Luther King where he called for racial equality and an end to discrimination. It was during an event called March On Washington For Jobs And Freedom where over 200,000 civil rights supporters were in attendance.
I recall that one of the projects that some members of Toastmasters International have been known to do is to recite parts of this ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. Of course, there’s nothing quite like watching and listening to the original by Martin Luther King even if the footage is only in black and white. It is still a very motivational video in my mind.
A 1999 poll of scholars of public address ranked this speech by Martin Luther King to be the top American speech in the 20th century. Martin Luther King and his speech was the inspiration of the hit song ‘In The Name Of Love’ by the Irish rock band U2.
The Motivational Video
Especially for those of you who have never heard this famous speech, here it is in its entirety as a motivational video. Enjoy it as it is still relevant as ever today.
Of course, feel free to leave your comments below and do share this with others if you think they should also get an opportunity to hear this famous speech by Martin Luther King.
