I Met A Real Life Sledge Hockey Player

After being introduced to sledge hockey at the recent Paralympics, it’s so wild that I met a real life sledge hockey player this week. I was competing in a Toastmasters speech contest and one of the audience members, Nawid, whom I’ve met on a number of occasions since he’s a member of the local advanced Toastmasters club here in Mississauga, was wearing a sledge hockey shirt. When I saw it, I immediately asked him if he plays the sport and he said he does. In fact, he even tried out for the Canadian national team and knows some of the players who are currently on the team.

If you saw any of the Paralympic sledge hockey games, you will agree with me that it is one tough sport. Despite these athletes being disabled, they still hit each other on the ice full contact, just like regular ice hockey. Looks can certainly be deceiving when off the ice, these guys are either in wheelchairs or walking with prosthetics. But when you see them on the ice, you will quickly conclude that these are tough dudes.

I want to feature Nawid in a future episode of Clint Cora Motivational WebTV for sure. I hope he agrees to it! It would be one awesome episode.
