Prepare To Motivate Staff

As we will be heading into the last quarter of the year soon, management of companies should be documenting all the business successes for the past year so far.  No matter how small a success was or how tiny any one particular employee’s contribution was during the year, it should be noted.  By the end of the year, all of these successes should be recognized in order to motivate staff for the upcoming new year.

Many companies recognize company staff for specific achievements on a monthly basis.  Even many retail establishments have these as the employee of the month (or even week) awards.  These are the formal achievements but even the informal ones should be noted by management.

All Recognition Will Motivate Staff

This is because all types of recognition will motivate staff but the ones in public whether in a communication to the entire company or as a presentation at a meeting, will do wonders to encourage people to perform even better at their jobs.  This is especially the case with many of the younger employees as this age group is not motivated purely by just a paycheck.

End Of Year Celebrations To Motivate Staff

The annual end of year celebrations (or beginning of the new year) should most definitely include recognition of all the employees and the departments that achieved success during the past year.  If management have been documenting these successes all along throughout the year as they happened, it would be a lot easier by year end to give recognition to them since they will not have been forgotten.

One of the worse things management can do is to fail to recognize successes by employees because they forgot about them.  So it is crucial that successes be documented so when the time comes for formally recognizing them, they will be accounted for.

Never Forget Past Successes

When times are tough, it is even more important for management to remind employees of past successes to motivate staff through the lows of business cycles.  Employees have to be reminded that they were successful in past and can be again.

In fact, this strategy can even be used on a personal level with much success.  I demonstrated this particular exercise using myself as an example during a Motivational WebTV episode.  If you missed this video, see it at Free Self Help Exercise On Past Successes.
