Conducting Self Improvement Action Planning Day For Group

Friday, August 20th, 2010

#selfimprovement #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment

I will be conducting a full day personal development, action planning seminar for a private organization in early September. This is like my motivational keynote on steroids and expanded to 5-6 hours of active self improvement rather than the usual 45 minute to one hour keynote presentation.

The participants in this seminar will get a 60 page Action Planner binder to work out of throughout the day. I will be mixing parts of my keynote The Life Champion In You (named after my book of the same title) with periods of group work where participants will be divided up into smaller groups 4 to 6 people maximum. Within these groups, people will brainstorm ideas and feedback to develop a full action plan for each individual customized for each person.

This is an intensive seminar but it makes people finally put the important personal development and self improvement principles into action on paper. Too often, people will read a book or go to a seminar and then not take any active action on planning for success. This day forces people to take the action of actually planning for their success on paper.

So far, I have only been offering this full day self improvement action planning seminar to private organizations such as companies and associations. I haven’t offered this as a public event that is open to all just yet. There would be more work involved in setting such an event up as I would have to secure venues, do the promotion and registrations. But if there is demand, then I will certainly do it.

More description of a possible self improvement action planning public seminar is at my website. See what you think of it and if you think this would be a good idea as wel as an event that you would like to take, please leave me a comment at the end of this post or on my Facebook pages.

Losing Results In Self Improvement Opportunities

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

#selfimprovement #personalimprovement #personaldevelopment #personalgrowth

I did my signature motivational speech up in Orangeville last night. This is a small town of about 30,000 about an hour northwest of Toronto. Usually, I present this particular presentation to adult audiences only as a self improvement topic. However, in this case, one family (husband and wife) brought their son who was probably in his early teens by my estimation. I told the event organizers that based on the arrival of one youth, I wasn’t going to change my talk (I have totally separate talks for the youth audience).

At the end of my motivational talk, the father and son came up to me to ask some questions. The boy raised an issue about himself. He told me that he was afraid of losing (in sports competition for example).

I told him that I’ve lost many times in martial arts competition. Although I have won world championships, I’ve also taken last places in my division as well as everything in between. And I also told him that it’s when I don’t get first place is when I learn the most. When I lose a competition, I always go back to the drawing board and think about what I can do as self improvement in that activity.

I then modify my training to work on those aspects I want to improve on. Over time, I always become a better competitor as a result. So I had to lose in order to really get better. If I won all the time, I probably wouldn’t have put that same type of effort to learn and improve.

The fact is, sometimes you have to lose in order to grow for self improvement. Therefore, although losing is never a great feeling, it should be viewed differently. Instead of totally negative experiences, losing should be viewed as great opportunities to learn and get better. When you lose, you are really uncovering huge potential growth opportunities.

I feel so strong about this, I’m even going to shoot an entire future episode of Clint Cora Motivational WebTV based on this. If you haven’t seen all my previous shows, check them out as part of your own self improvement at the Motivational TV archive.

Motivational TV With Martial Arts Karate Weapon

Monday, June 21st, 2010

#selfimprovement #motivation #motivational —  As a martial artist and motivational speaker, I like to combine some martial arts elements into my talks for added entertainment. I use martial arts to illustrate important points of self improvement during my presentations. One such example is that I bring out my martial arts weapon karate bo staff at certain points of my talks.

There is a concept I call comfort zone expansion in achieving success in self improvement. A comfort zone is when you are just to set in your own ways and stay within areas that do not allow you to venture out to learn new skills. Although as the term implies, you are very comfortable within your comfort zone, you don’t progress to achieve your goals.

You can usually achieve goals in self improvement only if you learn and develop new skills which will require getting a bit uncomfortable to expand your comfort zone. I use my karate bo staff to show audiences what happened in terms of comfort zone in my own case when I was first training with this martial arts weapon.

I then relate the karate bo staff to everything else in life that one wants to do better in. The same principle applies to every different area of life. I like to say that expanding one’s comfort zone is contagious as one can apply the same principle from one area of life to another one.

Since my parts of my live talks with the karate bo staff (and other martial arts elements as well) are always so well received, I’ve decided to put this on video with an entire episode of Clint Cora Motivational WebTV to show my website visitors around the world on what the bo staff is all about.

This is actually episode number 10 from my Motivational WebTV series already. I have had a lot of fun producing these episodes so far and I hope this new one will be entertaining and educational for your self improvement. See it below.

Of course as always, your comments about this unique episode featuring my martial arts weapon, the karate bo staff, are welcome at the comments section of this blog as well as on Facebook. If you missed any of the previous nine episodes, just go to Clint Cora Motivational WebTV archive.

You Are Never Too Old For Self Improvement

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

#selfimprovement #seniors  —  Some of the local audiences I spoke to over the last year were seniors and a few of these distinguished individuals even asked me if they were too old for self improvement.  During one talk when one older gentleman asked me this, I responded by telling the audience about a senior citizen I saw on the TV news.

This senior is a competitive swimmer and actively competes in the senior masters athletic competitions internationally.  He has already broken about four world records in swimming for the seniors age category and he plans to break at least two more.  The TV news segment showed him during his training sessions at the pool as well.  The really impressive thing here is that at the time of the news segment last year, this man was 100 years old!  My audience was quite impressed by that.

I recently spoke at a local Probus club right here in my own hometown of Mississauga (west of Toronto) and there were about 100 seniors who were all retired.  I did a 45 minute version of my motivational keynote and this group was quite impressive especially for a group of seniors.  They had a huge screen, wireless mic and computer projector all waiting for me when I arrive for the talk.  They were even willing to supply me with their own laptop already loaded with PowerPoint but I told them that I would use my own.

As far as the reception of my talk, it went great.  The way I positioned self improvement for them is that I’m aware that their doctors are probably urging them to get regular exercise in.  Exercise can be one of the major forms of self improvement for the seniors.  I also mentioned that the self improvement content I presented during my talk can also be used for them to help out their own children and grandchildren for their life goals as well.  Most of them accepted this fact as well.

Perhaps the best way to summarize the issue about self improvement and age is by the following email I received from Barbara Saunders, the Vice-President of this Probus club.

“You were like a breath of fresh air.  It is so hard to find interesting speakers, and I must admit that the speaker we had last month nearly put us all to sleep.”

“We may be a group of seniors, but we are a very active, congenial group that want to stay that way.  You gave us inspiration!  You made us realize that we are not too old to have goals.  You made us think about our lives and how we can make them better.  It is always helpful to hear someone elses’ story and how they overcame adversity.  You are living proof that you can grow from adversity and end up having a good life or even a great life.”

“I liked the fact that if you are trying to accomplish something, all you have to do is give 10% more effort.  If you keep that up eventually you will get where you want to be.  Thank you again for coming out and inspiring us all to become better people.”

It was a real pleasure speaking to this group of seniors and again, you are never too old for self improvement.  For more information on my talks, just go to my section on Speaking Programs and Seminars.

Personal Management Should Be Taught At School

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

#personalgrowth #selfhelp —-  One of the tasks I strongly advocate is reviewing your personal goals and plans on a regular basis.  I talk about this in my book ‘The Life Champion In You’ as well as during my motivational keynotes.  In fact, I do this review as part of my own personal management at the beginning of each month.

Since I like to make the best use of my time, I decided to do this month’s personal review while I was waiting in the auto shop while getting my car tires switched from snow tires to summer ones.  For some reason when I was going over my progress on all of the areas of my life that I was working on, I thought about all the people out there who do not have plans for their lives.  They are really missing out on living life to peak potential if they don’t have any personal management system for themselves.

I even wondered why such important skills are almost never taught to us as kids.  This led me to believe that personal management should be taught at schools.  We are all responsible for our own personal management and if nobody teaches us such important life skills, how can we expect to get the most out of life?  No wonder why many people feel that they can do better in life but have no idea how to improve themselves.

We should not allow our lives to be managed by others since the most effective personal manager for us will always be ourselves.  So ask yourself, do you have an effective personal management system in place?  If not, then it’s time to learn about this area through books and seminars on self improvement and personal growth.

#selfimprovement #personalgrowth — I had lots of great feedback on the current episode of Clint Cora Motivational WebTV which features the topic of diversity for the first time here so thanks for watching everyone.  The next episode of Motivational WebTV will return to the more familiar self improvement or personal growth theme even though diversity skills can be important for achieving success as well.

The next three episodes are already shot and edited.  They all feature topics for your self improvement.  We will return to another diversity episode after these three episodes are aired.

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

As a self improvement author, I consider it important to always make time for my audience after talks.  It doesn’t matter how long it takes, I always stay after presentations to chat with whoever wants to stick around for more interaction and conversation.  Here is a shot from a recent motivational talk.

Mississauga Toastmasters Club Contest For Self Improvement

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Although I don’t go to Toastmasters clubs much anymore, I did attend a Mississauga Toastmasters club contest this morning.  It was great to see familiar faces participating in the contest in some role as part of their self improvement.

Toastmasters is one of the best ways for self improvement in terms of communications skills.  Of course, there are other venues that should be used as well for overall self improvement.

Also reading a great book by Fred Gleeck at night before going to bed. I hope that I can play a small part in helping you learn more through my monthly motivational tools as well which you can access either through my Facebook page or my blog. It’s great to help each other learn for further self improvement.
