Canadian Motivational Speaker Coming To Southern California

Friday, May 14th, 2010

#motivational #motivation #rotary #kiwanis #lionsclub  — I’ll be coming to southern California in late June to speak at a huge college conference where there will be 2,000 student leaders from 400 different colleges from all over North America.  I’m being promoted as a Canadian motivational speaker coming to California for that event.

In actual reality, I’ll be a diversity speaker with some motivational content for that particular conference since in the college circuit, I do mostly my Kick Down Diversity Barriers For Success college presentation.  I’ll be speaking at this conference in San Diego on June 22 during the afternoon.

However, since I plan to stay in the southern California area, I am available to do other speaking engagements, especially with my presentations as a motivational speaker.  I am available for San Diego area community or corporate organizations from the evening of June 22 through to the evening of June 23.

I will be traveling north to Los Angeles on June 24 and so I am available for any groups in the LA area that entire day and evening.  I fly out of LAX in the morning of June 25.

So if you are part of any community group like Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis or similar organizations or a corporate association or company, I am available to do other talks in addition to my college conference event whether in Los Angeles, San Diego or in between.  Just contact me as soon as possible to arrange and secure date/time slots.  This is your rare opportunity to bring in a Canadian motivational speaker to your organization.

Descriptions of my speaking programs are at my website and they are arranged according to type of organization.  I’ve been to all of the theme parks in southern California that I want to visit so I don’t need to visit them again.  I do plan to use some of my time there to shoot more video footage for my Motivational WebTV but apart from that, I’m game for more talks.

Motivational Diversity Speaker Reading SPIN Selling Book

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

As a motivational diversity speaker, I believe that it is important to keep on learning by regular reading.  The book I’m currently reading is a sales book called SPIN Selling by Neil Rackham.  I actually have had this book sitting on my shelves for a few years unread but recently caught it listed as one of the top five sales books to read.  So I decided to put it back on my reading list.

Now, you might think that books on selling may not be applicable to you if you are not in a sales career.  But think again, because EVERYONE SELLS.  If you are an entrepreneur, you have to sell to clients and customers no matter what industry.  If you are in a career, you have to get your ideas across to others at your company and get them on your side – that’s selling.

So a lot of people can benefit from learning a bit more about the psychology of good selling techniques.  I’m about halfway through SPIN Selling it’s pretty good.

You Don’t Mess With The Zohan And Diversity

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

I saw the Adam Sandler comedy “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan” the other night and I thought that I would make a comment from a diversity perspective.  The movie is about a Jewish counter-terrorist with the Israeli military named Zohan, which Sandler plays.  Zohan becomes tired of the endless conflict between the Jews and Arabs.  He fakes his own death during a battle with an Arab terrorist called the Phantom and moves to New York City to pursue his dream, which is to be a hair stylist.

After being turned down by several leading hair salons including Vidal Sassoon, Zohan gets a volunteer position with a small salon run by a Palestinian woman named Dahlia.  When one hairstylist suddenly leaves, Zohan persuades Dahlia to give him a chance to finally cut hair.  She reluctantly agrees.  In no time, Zohan becomes a real hit with the mostly middle age to senior female clients although there is some graphic sexual content involved.

To make a long story short, the Phantom tracks Zohan down in New York but it turns out that Dahlia, who is now Zohan’s love interest, is the Phantom’s sister.   Both the Jewish and Arab sides in the community eventually agree to band together to fight off a greedy shopping mall developer who has hired a group of red necks to vandalize their shops.

The movie is typical Adam Sandler with loads of comedy and slapstick.  There are a lot of stereotypical jokes about both the Jewish and Arab people so those easily offended should definitely not watch this movie.  In the end, there is a good message from a diversity point of view.

The point that convinced both sides to finally cooperate is that everyone who came to America no matter from which culture are all the same.  They are all people who are trying to make ends meet whether cutting hair, working in small immigrant electronics stores or driving NYC taxicabs.

This is a good message although it wasn’t really introduced until near the end of the movie.  Zohan eventually marries Dahlia and in the end, everyone from the Phantom to Zohan’s parents, approve.

In a way, I think that all young adults, especially of Jewish and Arab descent, should watch this movie for that message.  The movie is entertaining enough with tons of laughs and gags even though there is a lot of stereotyping and vulgar sexuality.  But Sandler does get the message through.  From a diversity perspective, we are different but at the same time, we are the same and hatred has no place in this world.  In fact, there are many benefits with diversity which is what I promote as a diversity speaker.

Diversity Message On Stickers

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

I created a sticker that features a very important diversity message and this new sticker will be handed out to students at the upcoming COCA conference next week in St. John’s.  It’s part of a diversity campaign that is connected with my presentation on the topic of diversity.  This will fit in well as it’s another tool I can use to spread the message as a diversity speaker.
